Staff & Faculty: How to Download, Install, and Activate SPSS for Windows (Concurrent User License)

This article outlines the instructions for Staff, Faculty and IT Admins to download, install, and activate SPSS Statistics on a Windows device. Users must have administrative rights on their computer to install this software.

 

NOTE: Users must be connected to the U of G campus network (Ethernet, UofG Wifi Secure or VPN) in order to activate the Concurrent User version of SPSS Statistics.


 

Requesting Access to SPSS Statistics License and 

  • To use SPSS Statistics, Staff, Faculty & IT Admins must request access to SPSS Statistics by completing the SPSS Concurrent User License Request Form. Please visit the SPSS page of the CCS Software Catalog and complete the SPSS License Request Form.
  • After you complete this request form, you will be sent an email with the licensing server information and links to download the installation files for the current version of SPSS Statistics.

 

Downloading SPSS Installation Files

  • After you complete the SPSS Concurrent User License request form, you will be sent an email with the licensing server information and links to download the installation files for the current version of SPSS Statistics. The installation files for SPSS Statistics are also available for users to download from the SPSS Page of the CCS Software Catalog.
  • You will need to authenticate with your U of G Central Login account to view and download the installation files for SPSS Statistics from 
  • Click on "Download" to save the installer for SPSS Statistics to your computer.

Installing SPSS Statistics for Windows

  1. Open the SPSS Installer file you downloaded.
  2. Run the setup file of SPSS by opening the installer you just downloaded.
  3. You may receive a warning if you have a previous version of SPSS installed. Select Next to move to the License Agreement

  4. Accept the license agreement and click on Next button.

  5. Update the location of the software installation (if desired) and click Next to continue
     
  6. Select Install button.

  7. Wait for the installation to complete, then select Finish.

  8. Clicking Finish will launch SPSS. This will trigger the activation of the software via software Licensing Wizard.

Activating SPSS Statistics for Windows (Concurrent User)

Note: To activate and run SPSS, your computer must be connected to the U of G Campus network (ethernet or UofG Wifi Secure). If you are not physically located on campus and connected directly to the network (ethernet or UofG Wifi Secure), you will need to install and connect to the U of G Campus Network using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN prior to activating or running SPSS.

 

  1. On the Activate IBM SPSS Statistics dialog window, select Launch License Wizard

  2. On the Product Authorization screen, select Concurrent user license and click Next.

  3. Input the licensing server name you received via email in the license manager server name or IP Address box and click Next.
    Note: To activate and run SPSS, your computer must be connected to the Campus network. This will require you to be physically located on campus and connected to the Campus network (ethernet or UofG Wifi Secure)  OR if you are off campus, you must have an internet connection and be connected to the U of G Campus VPN using the Cisco Secure Client AnyConnect VPN.
  4. After a short delay, you will be presented with a list of active licenses. Click Finish. If no license/activation is confirmed after completing the above steps, ensure that you have a valid network connection on campus or are connected to the U of G Campus VPN using the Cisco Secure Client AnyConnect VPN.
  5. Restart SPSS and you should be able to successfully use your SPSS Statistics software.

 

Note: If you are prompted for Window Defender Firewall, select Allow access. This is required for licensing check.
