Staff & Faculty: How to Download, Install, and Activate SPSS for MacOS (Concurrent User)

This article outlines the instructions for Staff and Faculty to download, install, and activate SPSS Statistics on a MacOS device

NOTE: Users must be connected to the U of G campus network (Ethernet, UofG Wifi Secure or VPN) in order to activate the Concurrent version of SPSS Statistics.

Requesting Activation Code and Downloading Installation Files

• To use SPSS Statistics, users must request an activation code (license key) for SPSS Statistics to activate the software. Please visit the SPSS page of the CCS Software Catalog and complete the SPSS Activation Code Request Form. After you complete this request form, you will be sent an email with the activation code and links to download the install files for SPSS Statistics.
  • NOTE: SPSS Activation codes for Students expire at the end of each semester. To continue using SPSS, you must request a new activation code at the start of each semester.
• The installation files for SPSS Statistics are also available for users to download from the SPSS Page of the CCS Software Catalog.

Download and Install

1. Download the SPSS installer from the SPSS page of the CCS Software Catalog
2. Open the Installer file you downloaded from the Software Centre
3. You may receive a warning message if you have a previous version of SPSS installed, and click Continue to move to proceed.

5. Read the Important Information, and click Continue button.
   
    
6. Read the Software License Agreement, select preferred language, and click Continue to continue.
   
    
7. When prompted, confirm you agree to the terms of the software license agreement by clicking Agree to continue.
   
    
8. Select a destination or leave as default, and click Continue.
   
   Note: installing the software will require 1.91 GB of space on your computer.
    
9. Confirm the installation location and note that this will take up 1.91 GB of space on your computer. Click Install to perform a standard installation of this software.
   
   You will be prompted for your macOS admin password (install password).
    
10. Wait for it to complete the installation. Click "Close" to continue.
    
     
11. Finder should contain the SPSS install folder "IBM SPSS Statistics" located in the Application folder.
    

Activating SPSS Statistics for Mac (Concurrent User)

Note: To activate and run SPSS, your computer must be connected to the U of G Campus network (ethernet or UofG Wifi Secure). If you are not physically located on campus and connected directly to the network (ethernet or UofG Wifi Secure), you will need to install and connect to the U of G Campus Network using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN prior to activating or running SPSS.

1. Open SPSS Statistics application. You should be prompted to activate your license.
    
2. On the Activate IBM SPSS Statistics dialog window, select Launch License Wizard
   
    
3. On the Production Authorization screen, select Concurrent License in the License Wizard, and click Next.
   
    
4. In the License manager server name or IP address field, input: ulibv-licensep.cfs.uoguelph.ca, and click Next.
    
5. Note: To activate and run SPSS, your computer must be connected to the U of G Campus network (wired ethernet or via UofG Wifi Secure). This will require you to be physically located on campus, or to be connected to the U of G campus network by using the Cisco Secure Client AnyConnect VPN.
