Connecting Non-Standard Devices in Campus Buildings to WiFi

Devices that cannot connect to uog-wifi-secure (the device is not a laptop/tablet/mobile phone) can be registered so they can use the uog-guest wireless network. The device(s) will stay registered for 365 days, after which time it must be re-registered. Staff and faculty accounts can login to this portal and add devices. If the department needs to register more than 5 devices, please contact us. We will need the MAC addresses of each device.

Adding a non-standard device to Guest Wifi (uog-guest)

This process is for devices that cannot connect to uog wifi secure and cannot use a wired connection.

1. Find the wireless MAC address of the device.

2. Go to the My Device Portal and login - https://mydevice.uoguelph.ca (if you are off campus you must connect to VPN).

3. Choose Add.

first text box is for the name of the device. The second text box is for the mac address of the device. Click on blue box at the bottom left that says submit.

4. Enter the device’s name into the “Device name” field and enter the device’s MAC address into the “Device ID” field. The description box can be left blank. Click Submit. Wait a few minutes and the device should connect to uog-guest WiFi. If it gives an error or does not connect, make sure you have entered the MAC address correctly. The MAC address should on the page show after it has been added.

5. On the device, choose uog-guest as the WiFi network and it should connect.

The my device portal will show the mac address and the name of the device at the bottom if the screen.
