How to Connect to a Remote Desktop
NOTE: You must have departmental approval to remotely connect to a desktop AND must have access to the University of Guelph VPN
You will need to have either the "Remote Desktop Connection" app installed for Windows or the "Windows App" for MacOS. For all options below, first connect to the UoG VPN — you can find instructions on how to do so here.
Remote Desktop Connection
- Open the "Remote Desktop Connection" app, then type in your computer name — the connection details should end in uoguelph.ca
- Select "Connect". You will then be prompted for your University of Guelph username and password
- After entering those details, you should be able to log in directly to the desktop you are trying to access
Windows App
- Open the "Windows App", then select the "+" icon
- Choose the "PC" option
- Select the "PC Name" and enter the provided connection details
- Click "Save" then choose your Remote Desktop under "Saved Devices"
- Once in, it will ask you for your University of Guelph username and password
- After entering those, you will be successfully logged into the desktop you are trying to access
